The lavishness of the kimono is underrated: the apparent grandeur on the patterns, the bows and ribbons, hair styling and accessorizing, all of which are easy to appreciate and wonder at with the naked eye do make a statement — but it is the assembly of robes, garments, and strings, banded, braided, and layered around the body, all of which happen beneath the surface, that truly makes the ensemble a sight to behold.
